Mushing in Wolverine land, 8 days tour
With huskies in the last great wilderness in Europe. You will learn how to drive and handle your own dog team. We travel along the Tarravalley in the surrounding of Laponia World Heritage Area. In the start we follow the
bending river through the deep pine and spruce forest. After a couple of days we go through the birch forest and reach the open mountain. We are travelling at Sarek- and Padjelanta National parks borders. We bring
snowshoes and track the wild animals as wolverine, reindeer, moose, lynx, hare, ptarmigan etc.
Day 1 Arrival to Jokkmokk
We meet and give you information about the program for the following days. Together we have a nice dinner
and check the equipment. (D)
Day 2 Kvikkjokk and Njunjes, the start of our wilderness adventure
After breakfast we drive to Kvikkjokk. Here we will give you instructions in how to handle and drive a dog team. You will get three to four dogs each. We load the sleds and make us ready for departure. We travel alongthe Tarrariver valley, spruce and pine forest with the high mountains surrounding us. (B, L & D)
Day 3 Såmmarlappa, the residence of the lynx
After breakfast we feed the dogs, clean the cabin and chop wood for coming guests. Our destination for this day is the Såmmarlappa cabins. This day we will travel in the area of the lynx residence. Steep mountain slopes, ravines, birch forest and terrain with big boulders is excellent ground for the lynx. If we are lucky we will see
tracks from this graceful cat. (B, L, & D)
Day 4 Tuottar, where winds get freedom to act
Today we leave the birch forest behind us and travel up to the bare mountain. No protecting forest exists and we get a mighty view! Some moose use to graze in the willow sometimes. The destination of the day is the Touttar cabin. (B, L & D)
Day 5 Padjelanta, daytrip on the tundra
If the weather allows we will go on a daytrip from the cabin toward Staloloukta. (B, L & D)
Day 6 Tarrakaise, the quiet place by the end of the mountain
We mostly go downhill back through Tarravalley today. From the beginning we will travel over open tundra before we direct our teams down along the Tarrarivers upper glen. (B, L & D)
Day 7 Kvikkjokk, back to civilisation
We go along the valley and back in to the deep pine and spruce forest. This day we will be back in Jokkmokk where we can enjoy showers and a hot sauna before we eat a nice dinner together. (B, L & D
